COME NORTH

to COLVILLE

t

I

& STAY

AWHILE

. . .

The quaint little

LADYBUG GALLERY

is located opposite the

Colville Hall...walk down a quiet garden at the end of the trees

opening up to the fields beyond. There is the

Ladybug

.

Come through the Gallery door to see expressionisms and local

landscapes, animals and flowers – and much more – painted

on canvas and local stone. You and your children can delight

in what you see, buy what you like, and pass through to enjoy

more sights and delights in the beautiful Colville Bay.

THE COLVILLE

GENERAL STORE

Step back in time and experience

shopping as it used to be. Our old

fashioned ‘General Store’ offers

general grocery items, including a

good selection of gluten and dairy

free items, as well as a wide range

of camping, fishing and automotive supplies. We feel strongly about working together

as a community so we have local produce and manuka honey on our shelves. We love

the world we inhabit, so we offer organic produce and products whenever we can, at

competitive prices.

If you are heading north for a few day’s stay, we are the last stop on the peninsula for

stocking up on supplies and fuel, so don’t pass us by!

Is there

anything out there

?

T

he short answer is an enthusiastic Yes! And Colville

still retains that certain something of the past, a yet

undiscovered “hot spot’... just for you. Many say it’s

a reminder of what the Coromandel once was. The

region offers something really unique and special for

that perfect holiday destination where you can put your

feet up, find a little peace and rejuvenation, and yet still

have lots to do.

Check out local horse trekking possibilities. Also

tramping, fishing, diving, mountain biking, bird

watching, farm experiences or kayaking – all here in

Colville. Try your luck fossicking for semi-precious

gemstones such as carnelian, petrified wood and kauri

gum! Or just soak up the gorgeous scenery on a drive

north along the coast. Plan on stopping for a swim, a

spot of fishing, or for a picnic and photoshoot of sea

birds on the spectacular terrain.

A day trip could have you starting just outside Colvillle

with an early morning meditation session at the

Mahamudra Buddhist Retreat Centre and signing

up for one of their popular summer events (see list

in calendar section). Then meander though artists’

studios, workshops and craft and gift shops. A must

see are the one-of-a-kind rough hewn macrocarpa

furniture pieces at Branch Creek Woodworking on

the road in to Colville. In town browse through the

Himalaya Shop’s gorgeous imports from India and

Nepal. Next door is the Ladybug Gallery where the

Coromandel-Colville Art Group welcomes visitors.

Across the road is a quaint little post office entirely

staffed with a dedicated volunteer team, who would

be happy to tell you a bit about the area. Did you know

that the town was once named Cabbage Bay? Captain

Cook insisted his crew eat the leaves of the local

cabbage tree to help prevent scurvy!

At the north end of town, find Hereford ’n’ a Pickle, a

charming farm shop operated by a family who have

been farming the Colville Valley for generations. Home

grown beef and lamb, salamis, and fresh baking are

specialties. They’ve got great coffee too! In the middle

of town is the iconic Colville General Store for those

healthy groceries, manuka honey and ‘last chance

petrol’. Pop into Harry’s Bar and Kitchen for a quick

bite before going further afield.

Stay awhile! Overnight at the Colville Motel (rooms and

camping), Otautu Bay Campground, or in cabins at the

Mahamudra Centre. Check out the DOC campgrounds

further north.

Into biking or running? Enter

The Colville Connection

trail bike/walk event, with multiple race lengths,

5-42km, some kid-friendly. Or just come for the famous

feed, put on by the Lion’s Club. Date is set for Saturday

9 April. Check

www.colvilleconnection.co.nz.

Visit the

Colville Arts Festival

at Easter Break, 23-

30 March, jam-packed with concerts, exhibitions,

various workshops, dance, and good food. See

Whatever you do, and wherever you stay, be sure to

make this area your holiday choice this summer!

If you are looking for quiet, peaceful surroundings,

COLVILLE

BAY MOTEL & MOTORCAMP

is the place for you. The fully

across the foreshore. There are several safe beaches within
