WHAT’S NEW
You’ve heard of closed circuit TV (CCTV) to monitor a
baby’s room, or laparoscopic surgery which uses the
assistance of a video camera, but you (well, someone)
can now use this technology to view inside the drainage
pipes of your home or business. Now that someone can
see what is clogging those pipes. Tree Roots, Children’s
Toys, hair, um, and - you know - other stuff.
Chris and Gail New at Tairua Plumbing are proud to
offer the first CCTV inspection on the eastern coast
of the Coromandel. Explains Chris, “When the cause
of a drainage problem at your home isn’t immediately
obvious, we can insert a CCTV camera into your Sewer
Pipes to track it down. Not only does this save time by
allowing us to see exactly what and where the problem
is, but we can then give a very accurate estimate of
what it will cost to carry out any repairs”.
He adds that additionally they use an above ground
locator that can follow the camera, cables, or metal
pipework. Above ground location eliminates costly &
messy exploratory digging.
CCTV is also useful in identifying issues in a drainage
system before they become more serious, or in a home
you may be thinking of purchasing. All of this can be
easily recorded on a DVD.

Tairua Plumbing
introduces Sewer TV!
The entire town is jumpin’ for joy to have
their “old” butcher back. Brett and Sue
Collins took over the shop in December
without skippin’ a beat - like they were
never gone. That was due in part to Shona
Douglas, an important part of the business
as far as Brett and Sue are concerned.
They’re pleased she has stayed on to
provide that great friendly service she does
so well.
I was fortunate to win a meat pack from
Tairua Country Club supplied by Brett.
Wow. It had a bit of everything including a
few prawn kebabs that we’re now hooked
on - they make a great starter while waiting
for the rest of the meal to cook on the BBQ
(our cat loves them too).
Greg’s favourite is the fresh Pork Fillet
and for those special ocassions, the Beef
Tenderloin fillet - yum! The freshly pre-
stuffed chickens made a delicious easy
meal during deadline for PakuViews.
And he’s still providing all those tasty
smoked products. Special orders? Just
ask. Brett’s in to providing whatever his
customers want if he can. Ph 07 864 8630.
Tairua Welcomes Brett the Butcher
The Pepe, Licensed Cafe & Restaurant represents the
realisation of a dream for owner Steve Morris, who for a
number of years wished he could own the business but
wasn’t entirely sure how it would come about.
On 1 March 2012, Steve and wife Sandra took
possession of the business formerly known as The Tairua
Landing. With the help of local contractors, family, friends
and a new hospitality and culinary team - the premises
and business were refurbished, rebranded and reopened
several weeks later to the delight of local patrons.
Just a week after opening, the Beach Hop Kragar Kick
Off Party came to town - the first test of the new team’s
mettle. Noddy Watt’s organised a band, Woodstock
provided promotional support and The Pepe crew cooked
and served up a storm receiving raves from the audience!
This prime location on Main Road offers great harbour
views for inside or outside diners. The Cafe is currently
open 7 days for breakfast and lunch with fresh food
available from the cabinet. The new appointment of a
Head Chef will see the business open for dinner mid/late
April - something we know is highly anticipated by locals
and tourism operators alike. 07 864 7774.
We look forward to seeing you at The Pepe!
