Frisbee Golf and the Sand

Castle Building Competition

(a great rainy day activity),

are just two of the kid friendly

events at this summer festival.

Mud runs, art classes, kids

duathlon, market day and

family sports days are just a

few of these fun events.

Surfing & Boogie Boarding

If you and your young ones don’t yet know how to surf, try boogie

boarding. Ride in the gentle surf, or paddle out to the larger waves for

more excitement.

Learn all about it...

The East Coast is known for some great surf spots. Want to try the

waves? All the surf shops offer lessons at all levels.

If there is one stellar surf destination on the Coromandel, it would be

Whangamata (hometown of world champ Ella Williams), rated in the

top ten on the planet. See next pages for suggestions for surf and

paddleboard lessons and hires.

Hot Water Beach deserves special mention, a unique

favourite for all ages, rain or shine. The entire family

can enjoy digging their own shallow sand hole together

and then join the crowd to soak in the natural warm

mineral springs that fill it.

Sandcastle Competition, it

all happens 5 January.

Kid-Friendly Beaches

From splashing and wading, to wave riding and sailing...from

flowing streams and shoreline caves to warm estuaries and

cool ocean currents...whether on it or in it...young or old...our

Coromandel coastline offers a myriad of possibilities on either

side of the tideline and it’s ours to enjoy!

What to do? The best surfing waves are on the peninsula’s

east coast. Camping can be bare-bones or luxurious, from

back country bush to bach on the beach. Numerous places to

launch your boat. Tours, trekking and sightseeing, scuba and

snorkelling, shoreline and wharf fishing or heading out for that

trophy game fish.

Hire kayaks, surf, sup and body boards, fishing or diving gear.

Plenty of parks, playgrounds and petting zoo’s. Many estuaries

and harbours offer safe, warmer water fun for littlies. To find

‘family’ beaches check out
