Andy Corles Update
Last issue we reported on the progress Andy
had made since his vehicle accident in July,
which left him confined to a wheelchair and
undergoing rehabilitation.
We are pleased to report that he returned
home for good on November 13, having learnt
the skills necessary to cope with day to day
activities at the Otara Spinal unit.
He says that with a little bit of help from his wife
Shelley he is learning to transfer from the chair
to the car as strength builds in his arms. They
are now using a van provided by ACC but are
deciding on a suitable car to buy for the future.
In the meantime, with encouraging support
from the community, the
Castle Rock Café
is
enjoying good patronage, to the extent that on
Labour weekend the manager, Dyon ran out of
all supplies, including coffee on Monday.
Andy wishes to acknowledge with gratitude the
unwavering support and generous contributions
from the local community, which has given
them peace of mind and the comfort of moving
forward with confidence.
Please keep patronising Castle Rock Café and
consider supporting Andy’s recovery through
the

keep them progressing.

T
he ‘A Taste of Matarangi’ committee
members have been busy organising and
can promise the 2015 event will be even more
action packed with lots more great things to
see, taste and experience.
Event Coordinator Bronwyn Ririnui says the
main act of the day has been locked in, and it’s
“out with the ole truck and in with a real stage
– a big one too, because the Hypstamatics are
coming to town!”
“If you haven’t heard of these musos then
make sure you attend. They have an infectious
stage show and will be a dynamic end to the
festival.” The Hypstamatics are a ten piece
band full of high energy, soul and funk, playing
remixes of well known tunes in their own
authentic style.
Jessica Matthews and her sister, Georgina were
at the last event – and due to popular demand,
they are back, now branded as ‘Daughters of
Alley’. These sisters are powerhouses, love
performing and are taking the New Zealand
music scene by storm.
Other local musicians from the region taking
the stage include, Toya Fleetwood & Keyes,
Dylan Wade and The Mercury Bay Big band ...
plus more.
“Oh, and there’s FOOD!”
In addition to the superb stage line up, the
festival will serve up great food and beverages
throughout the day. “And it’s not all about
picnicking on the grass and basking in the hot
sun while the music plays”, assures Bronwyn,
“as there will be plenty of activities this year for
families, including the ever popular Cook Off,
a fancy dress competition, pony rides for the
young ones ... plus MORE!”
A Taste of Matarangi is a charitable event
to support the Westpac Rescue Helicopter
Trust. Donations will be received to support
this charity on the event day, and the Westpac
Rescue crew will be supplying free rides on
their Helicopter Simulator.
A special thanks to all the sponsors who have
come on board so quickly. If it wasn’t for these
wonderful businesses we simply couldn’t put
the festival together.
