Seascape artist Paul Deacon created several
paintings for the Whitianga commemoration
of the shipwreck of the HMS
Buffalo
, which
were displayed at the Mercury Bay Museum.
Donations from community members allowed
the museum to purchase two of these works.
During Buffalo Homecoming Week, Paul
gave a talk about the paintings and taught a
workshop for the Whitianga Art Group
.
Right: Our Road Trip artist Charlotte Giblin
chose to paint some mighty moody clouds.

be limited in size to 200mm, and be priced at $200 or less. Meet the
artists and enjoy wine and nibbles. Location: 228 Main Street.

her painted version of the dolphin above.
This Tairua gallery has quite the reputation for being artist friendly. It
is run like a cooperative, with attention given to making sure there is
an intriguing mix of works exhibited, most by Coromandel artists. This
diverse, intimate gallery prides itself on offering ‘a little of the best’,
representing over 40 artists, and often has “up to 1000 works exhibited
at any one time” according to owner Sarah Holden.
There are frequent theme exhibits and sales throughout the year, and
many of the artists are Mercury Bay Art Escape members (see below).
