WIN UP TO

WORTH OF PRIZES IN THE

Heart Foundation’s 21st Birthday Lottery!

T

he H

eart Foundation Lottery

is

celebrating its 21st birthday by offering the

biggest ever prize pool yet, worth $720,000.

Grand prize is the Jennian dream home above.

“We’ve returned to Pauanui where we gave away

our first home 21 years ago,” says Lottery Manager

Gail McIntyre, who admits she must have the

world’s best job. Six times a year, she picks up the

phone to tell someone they’ve won a new home

valued at over $500,000.

Over the last two decades, the Lottery has given

away 90 amazing homes, 180 overseas escapes

and more than $900,000 in cash.

“Our biggest prize pool yet!”

The first prize Pauanui home, with beautiful water

views, is a stunning fully-furnished 3-bedroom (plus

study) Jennian home with a registered valuation of

$650,000. The open plan design, offering a lovely

indoor-outdoor flow, is perfect for entertaining.

The master bedroom, with ensuite, features

sliding doors to the deck. Other prizes include two

overseas trips, a new Toyota and $10,000 in cash.

Winners decide whether to move in right away,

keep as a holiday home, or, if the location is too far,

sell – the choice is yours! Whatever you choose,

“winning a Jennian dream home is a life changer”.

In 2012, however, luck and location went hand

in hand. The ‘Lottery No. 74’ prize home was in

Whangamata, and Christine and James Green

of Whiritoa lived close enough to relocate. (They

learned of their win via email while on a cruise.)

Gail has handed over the keys to some incredibly

wonderful and deserving winners over the years.

One such couple is Blenheim’s Rex and Adrienne

Handley, who claimed ownership of their prize

Jennian home near Wanaka. “It’s as if we are still

dreaming and need convincing this has really

happened,” Rex shares.

He found out about the Heart Foundation and its

Lottery programme while recovering from a heart

attack about 20 years ago. He has been buying

two tickets every draw since. “I believe it to be a

worthwhile cause, particularly for the research.”

The Heart Foundation launched its Lottery

programme in 1993 to raise funds to fight the

country’s single biggest killer – heart disease. One

person dies of heart disease every 90 minutes, the

equivalent of 330 rugby teams dying each year. The

Lottery helps fund vital heart research, heart health

programmes, education, prevention and care.

“Phoning the winners and telling them they’ve just

won a fully-furnished home is simply amazing. I

reckon it’s the closest thing you get to being Santa

Claus – but six times a year!” says Gail.
