A sunny, crystal clear July 7th greeted the
hundreds who turned out in the middle of
winter to watch others boldly “take the
plunge”–all in support of the the Child
Cancer Foundation. Hardy men, women
and children (65 in all, many dressed in
wonderful costumes) made the plunge
into the icy surf. Prizes were awarded for
various categories.
Gary and Treena Kerr of The Chocolate
Pretzel and their team of loyal helpers
organised this benefit which raised $3000
from swimmer entry fees, raffles, silent
auction, sausage sizzles, Harley Davidson
rides, and t-shirt sales.

Freezin’ for a Reason!
New Things Baking at TAll Tairua
Margaret Chick, long time Tairua resident,
is now the proud owner of TAll on Main
Road. Already famous for her savoury
cheese biscuits, she hasn’t left baking
behind–you can now choose from her
daily selection of freshly baked goodies
and enjoy with one of the best coffees in
town. Even son Denzel is getting into the
“fun” of it, pictured getting a lesson from
Mum on the espresso machine.
A dream come true! “First weeks in and
I am loving it. Loving getting to bake
everyday and can’t wait for my new TAll
kitchen to be finished so I can get making
some delish pies”. Marg is continually
adding to her fresh baked food offerings;
pop in to find out her special creations
for the day. (We checked the TAll TAIRUA
Facebook page to find this status update:
“Spiced peach cake in the oven nom nom.”)
Marg has already expanded seating inside
and an extended deck will expand the
outside as well. She loves the fact that
locals come visiting for a friendly chat and
a cuppa. Spin the mini-roulette wheel for
