Arts festival invigorates the community
O
ne of the most ambitious community
arts events on the peninsula...comes
from one of its smallest and most remote
communities. As you can see from the
photos, everyone gets involved in the fun!
The Colville Arts Festival is an 8-day
interactive event around Easter break
with workshops scheduled every day, and
entertainment in the evenings. Not just
music, stand up comics too. And who
doesn’t love an outdoor projected movie,
complete with popcorn. And don’t forget
the community BBQ!
There were arts and crafts workshops for
all ages and other activities held under
canvas outside the Community Hall.
Workshops included flax weaving, felting,
creative cardboard capers, beadwork,
fabric dying, making a bow and arrow from
bush materials, mosaic tiles, silkscreening,
salsa music jam, and more.
The official art exhibit included work from
over 30 local artists and held inside the
Colville Hall, which which had its floors
and walls newly refurbished just before the
festival. Colville Bay School, Pre-school
and Kennedy Bay School also contributed
to the exhibition by each creating an artistic
piece as they do every year.
