Glaucoma - one of the leading causes of

blindness in New Zealand – is aptly described

as the ‘Silent Thief of Sight’ because it slowly

attacks our vision without warning.

A staggering 68,000 Kiwis over the age of 40 are

affected by glaucoma, which is defined by a group of

related eye diseases caused by damage to the optic

nerve that gradually steals sight without warning.

Don’t risk your eyesight, early detection via a

consultation and eye exam is your best chance of

prevention, so call Visique O’Hagan Vision Care and

book your appointment today.

FORMAL PORTRAIT OF

FAMILY PATRIARCH SECURED

Decisions had to be made about how to spend existing funds, or

fundraise for special projects.

One such purchase was the formal portrait of Captain Mervyn

Stewart, father of both Hugh Stewart and his brother George

Vesey Stewart, the entrepreneur who enrolled and brought

over 4000 Irish Protestant settlers to the Bay of Plenty. Captain

Stewart’s portrait now hangs in the ballroom. The captain’s

Orangemen Ulster sash is also on display.

Settlement founder George

Vesey Stewart in 1899.
