Excited ‘kids of all ages’ line the streets, waiting
expectantly for the wonder of their town’s annual
Santa Parade. How will Santa arrive this year?
By Ferry? Fire engine? A classic convertible?
A sleigh? A surfboard? Or an antique truck?
A big thanks to the groups who organise these events and
decorate those tractors, bikes, trucks, cars and trailers.
They don their brightest costumes, their whitest beards to
ensure a joyous experience for our little ones.
But the true hero of the day is the ‘Big Guy in the red suit’!

Whangamata: It’s a 3pm start for the Lion’s Santa Parade
down Port Road with Santa riding atop a specially built
sleigh, featuring perhaps two dozen ornate floats. To enter

WAiHI: Noon, parade and then a full range of activities –
Market Day, entertainment, raffles, and more!
THAMES: 12:30pm. Coincides with Thames South
School Christmas Fair (11:30am-3pm). Colourful floats,
decorated bicycles, dancers, marchers, clowns, music; food
stalls. Raffles. Free kids activities. More details at
COROMANDEL TOWN: 2pm parade, then enjoy games,
stalls and entertainment on the Patukirikiri Reserve. Free
family fun!

Whitianga: 12:30-2pm, Santa’s 30th year! $15 per float.

Historic Maritime Museum & Park. Fee.

paeroa: 6pm parade with many theme floats. Prizes for
best floats and best dressed. Something for everyone.
FRIDAY, 18 DEC
Pauanui shopping centre Late Night Shopping with
Santa. Live music, raffles, special sales, etc. See page 59.
SATURDAY, 19 DEC
Tairua: Santa arrives by ferry, then on to Santa’s Grotto on
the Pepe by fire truck: a clown, balloon animals, sausages,
playground, more. 07 864 7575 or
Matarangi: At 11am Santa rolls into Matarangi in a
vintage car accompanied by lots of decorative floats and fun
people in costume giving out lollies. Prizes awarded for best
