GUITY EVELYN
View fine art by renowned contemporary French/New Zealand
painter Guity Evelyn at the artist’s home/studio overlooking
unspoilt Opoutere Beach and Wharekawa Harbour.
Guity’s unique art and distinctive style exude the beauty of The
Coromandel tinged with hints of Provence and the Cote d’ Azur,
from where she originates. These contrasting reflections of where
the Pacific meets the Mediterranean express a character all of
their own. Guity’s boldness of colour and an affinity for both the
figurative and abstract have made her art sought by national and
international collectors.

depth with their shifting patterns and melting colours ... They strike a
chord with people from all over the world, many of whom come back to
collect more of Guity’s art. Visitors at Topadahil Studios watching
the changing colours of the sea and the movement
of light across the sky, understand...”

Meet Guity year round in her studio – OPEN DAILY!
M
ichael will not be opening his Otama studio this year, but his work
can be seen at the Bread & Butter Gallery in Whitianga, and he will be
stopping by the gallery each Saturday, the 7th and 14th March, from 11am
until 12pm. Otherwise Bread & Butter Gallery curator, Christine Rabarts,
will be available during tour hours both weekends to ‘guide’ people
through Michael’s work.
While visiting his studio last year, we were
intrigued by the sight of these bright
painted sticks drying in the sun, with
longer ones leaning against the wall. We
wondered what the end creation would be.
One of his colourful sculptures is pictured
on page 39 as part of the Underfoot
Gallery along Thames waterfront.
See other artworks by participating artists
at the gallery as well including Jacqueline
Elley, Souzie Speerstra, Ginney Deavoll, Rachel Olsen and Ian Calloway.
First MBAE ‘Patron Artist’
As one of NZ’s most famous contemporary artists, Otama resident and
foundation member of the Mercury Bay Art Escape, Michael has been
appointed the Art Escape’s first ‘Patron Artist’. This is not only in
recognition both of his standing as a NZ artist, but more importantly
the contribution he makes to all of the arts in our region because of his
stature and support for the Art Escape and its member artists.
Art Escape Trust Chairman Stuart Christie said that last year they created
“an honorary role to recognise the contribution an individual artist makes
to the objectives and activities of the Trust. We are very proud to have
Michael with us as a wonderful ambassador and wise mentor to the Trust
and our members.”
