clear, cool mornings are perfect for setting off on longer

hikes. the kauaeranga valley (below right) is home

to one of our best-loved, the pinnacles. it is a good

day walk, and the views atop the summit are worth

well-trodden and more remote trails run along the coast

where hill intersects with ocean, proffering great views to the

offshore islands and the sea. the golden light of winter adds

a special hue to the landscape from the coromandel coastal

walkway shown above.
