The Majestic Pinnacles

AND ITS COSY HUT FOR 80

CAFE OPEN 7 DAYS DURING SUMMER

Experience Devonshire High Tea in the

bush! Wednesday afternoons from 2pm.

Below is Crosbies Hut, a

4-6 hour trek from one of

many trails, often steep and

muddy. The hut sleeps 10.

Both huts must be booked in

advance.

Sunrise over the rugged Pinnacles as seen from the Hikuai Valley. The Pinnacles track is quite a

climb, even with the established staircases below. The suspension bridge is located near the carpark.

Left: The small building is

the Pinnacles Hut, one of the

most popular and largest in

the country. Be sure to carry

in your own water.

Kauaeranga Kauri Trail (Pinnacles Walk). This trail

starts from the carpark at the very end of the KV

road, about 9km drive beyond the Kauaeranga

Visitor Centre.

The trail leads to the Pinnacles Hut, then another

half hour hike to the summit, a combo of

walkways, stairs, and ladder rungs. Expect 3-5

hours each way, depending on the route. Search

for the term ‘Kauaeranga Kauri Trail’ for the DOC

page, which will link you to a large map with more

details. Look for videos of this hike on YouTube.

The Kauaeranga Visitor Centre will help you plan

your stay and trek. Choose to camp near the

centre or book one of the huts.

Prefer not to drive? Call into the Thames iSite to

find out about available shuttles in the area.

The building shown left is the Department of

Conservation’s Kauaeranga Visitor Centre.

The centre offers informative movies on

history and conservation, and a store selling

conservation related gifts and books. The

friendly staff provide help with camping sites

(power available for certified vehicles), tracks

and recreational information.

There are also two huts in the valley, the

Crosbies Hut and the Pinnacles Hut. The

centre can help you book your spot.

The Kauaeranga Valley Cafe is now open in

Summer every day with delicious coffee and

homemade food.
