From Principal Anna Yates...
At our small, family-focussed, rural
school, we love to see our students taking responsible risks in their
learning, both inside and outside the classroom. Taking a risk pushes
them out of their comfort zones; and for all our students this is an
important part of their play and the development of themselves as
confident, life-long learners.
The Year 8 students organised a fun sports afternoon this term to utilise
our school pool and put their leadership abilities into action. All students
participated in pool games, Rippa Rugby, our famous waterslide and
other activities coordinated by our Year 8 students and their teacher
Mrs. Watts. Our senior students leadership will be enhanced even
further in term 2 through PAL (Playground Activity Leaders) training with
Project Energise. This will add to all of the exciting things our students
can do at their break-times.
This term we’ve had students painting the junior playhouse, drawing
out and playing on a giant chalk snake and ladder game, constructing
marble runs as well as endless fun with tyres and planks of wood.
A number of our students performed 3 waiata at ‘A Taste of Matarangi’
festival recently which was a fantastic opportunity for our students to
develop confidence to perform in front of a huge audience. All students
did a great job and our keen singers are looking forward to participating
in the Kid for Kids concert in Thames in August.
