COROMANDEL LIFE LATE SPRING / HOLIDAY 2018
Tairua School certainly has something
to celebrate this year. Saturday 5th of
January 2019 marks the 25th year for the
fantastic and renowned TAIRUA SCHOOL
FOOD AND WINE FESTIVAL.
The team has organised their biggest
festival to date, bringing together the best
food trucks, best wine, best beer and cider
merchants along with an awesome music
lineup, headlined by the Jordan Luck Band.
“To have reached our 25th anniversary is
pretty incredible,” Principal Brendan Finn
adds. “Consider the number of attendees
over all those years, the volunteer hours that
have been invested, and the hundreds of
thousands of dollars that have been raised for
our school... that is cause for celebration! The
support of both locals and visitors that return
each and every year highlights the value of
this event to the school and wider community.
Those festival funds have been used for
valuable projects at the school which
otherwise wouldn’t have been possible. A new
junior playground including a deck, sandpit,
carpentry shed and water fountain has been
installed. Forty senior students enjoyed a
week-long team-building and adventure camp
at National Park. New wetsuits and life jackets
were bought for our Waterwise programme,
and the multi-purpose room gained a new
kitchen, fully kitted out for cooking classes
and science experiments... to name just a few.
“The vibe of the festival reflects the ethos of
the school as a whole. And the army of school
volunteers involved bring such heart and
enthusiasm to ensure everyone feels really
welcome. It has evolved into a truly enjoyable,
social event with a family-friendly approach to
entertainment, food and alcohol service.
To mark the anniversary, our team has some
special things in the pipeline. We’ll be ready
and waiting to welcome festival friends old
and new for another fantastic and fun day.”
GREAT MUSIC LINEUP & ENTERTAINMENT
Besides the Jordan Luck Band, back by
popular demand is Daughters of Ally –
featuring Jessie Matthews and the new power
vocals of Ani Nuku. Putting some ‘magic’
into the festival is solo act, Majic Paora. This
reggae roots artist has gained one accolade
after another, recently winning Best Female
Headliner Jordan Luck Band. Jordan, as front man for
The Exponents, has clocked up a staggering eighteen
‘Top 40’ hit singles over the years, and the pub
anthem ‘Victoria’ recently came 8th in the Greatest NZ
Song of All Time competition.
