COROMANDEL LIFE
SUMMER 2014
Around & About the Coromandel
A handful of Tairua women, ages 20 to 50, are
feeling fantastic after completing a 12-week
‘Be the Best Version of Yourself’ challenge
series held over the winter months, organised
by qualified personal trainer Sam Taylor. Her
individualized program included daily fitness
classes, healthy food plans, journaling, regular
measurements and support workshops.
“Ultimately” reflects Sam “I wanted to create
a consistent social environment where woman
can exercise and motivate each other, get
people moving and give mothers the chance to
give more time to themselves”.
The programme catered to each participant;
everyone stated their goals – fitness, wellbeing,
habits to ‘break and make’ or weight loss.
Sam explains, “A typical week involved a
choice of three circuit classes: six walking
sessions, two ‘Great Outdoors’ sessions,
and using outdoor facilities around Tairua.”

Participants were offered and encouraged to
take classes in Zumba, kick boxing, and yoga.
“This challenge has been a life changing
experience for me,” participant Jenny
Hemmings notes. “Sam has managed to make
regular exercise and healthy eating fun.”
Ages ranged between 20 and 60, while goals
varied from improving wellbeing and losing the
muffin top, to training for events such as The
Great Cranleigh Kauri Run.
Emma Darragh completed both the challenge
and the 32km Kauri race, which was her goal.
“Sam really honoured the ethos of being the
best version of yourself,” explains Emma.
Get in on the fun! “It’s never too late to hop on
the bandwagon!” Tairua Women’s Fitness
classes are held at the Tairua Rugby Club.
