Nothing says
summer like the red
Pohutukawa blooming
at the beach... and the
crowds of people and
kayaks...
Some kayak for
excitement, others for
serenity. Some head
out for the sensation of
gliding above nature’s
watery world. This group
of enthusiasts share a
camaraderie with their
mutual love for the water.
From surf to estuary, there
are great places to kayak in
and around Tairua.
Fun on the water...
Young surfers have some fun on Tairua Beach.
Part of surfing lessons is the NOT surfing part:
the effort to paddle out, the patience to catch
the right wave at just the right time, and the
graciousness to let others take it.
Local kids catching a few are Sam Martin,
Sam Aldrich & Asha Cardinsole.
Awaiting the wave at sunset are
Asha Cardinsole, Karl Attwell,
Molly Aldrich & Shaan Wilson.
Fifty years ago or today, Tairua and Pauanui
kids still delight in “sand, sun and swim”.
A Tairua tradition – jumping off the Pepe bridge!
We’ve been told it’s addictive and at high tide there’s
a queue of all ages to prove it! On holiday weekends
the activity under the bridge is almost as busy as on
it, as cars face delays in long queues.
