ISSUE 6 SUMMER 2013
Shirley shown with her “giant” clematis, Madame le
Coultre. They love the blood and bone she feeds them
after heavy pruning in late winter – some of these
blossoms measure more than 25cm!
Shirley’s pride and joy are her roses – over 30 varieties.
Like her children, she won’t name favourites, but there
are some true beauties! We missed the ‘peak’ of their
season in November when thousands line the drive by
the house, but even in Summer we found them a sensory
delight in various sizes and perfumes.
You don’t often find Kangaroo paw (right) in NZ. It’s one
of Shirley’s favourites and a fond reminder of home.
The Anson’s garden is actually two – a glorious rose
and cultured garden circling the house and a native
wonderland out back.
