Longtime Tairua resident Annette Taylor recently
purchased Tairua Flowers from Karen O’Reilly.
The Pepe
offers new beverages, with Oli in the kitchen
Great changes happening at the Pepe Cafe just in
time for Summer. Owner Steve Morris and Manager
Aaron Dunn are thrilled to have Oliver Rimpler at the
helm in the kitchen. Customers are loving his new
menu offerings including the new cabinet selection,
ranging from sandwiches to fresh salads, pies and
gourmet home-made savories.
Aaron points out other tasty changes: “Coffee LaLa
set us up with a new Wega Espresso Machine, and
we are now serving their ‘Oooh LaLa’ blend, freshly
dark roasted right here on the Coromandel. Both
locals and visitors appreciate the difference, pushing
our coffee-per-day rate up to record numbers for the
summer season”. Aaron also admits it’s satisfying to
support a local business. “We get excellent personal
service and their small batch roasting gives the roast
that extra quality and freshness”.
Independent Breweries and Boundary Road
Craft Beers also receive Aaron’s raves. “With new
equipment and competitive pricing, we can now offer
a ‘cheaper’ alternative for tap and bottled craft beers.
They also helped us set-up with new umbrellas and
special glasses for the various beer sizes”.
So head for The Pepe to caffeine-up, chill-out with
a brew or feed the soul while enjoying their great
harbour view. Main Road, 864 7774.
Ruth Lee
offers a year of her art
Ruth Lee, noted local artist, recently hosted a delightful
evening at the Old Mill Cafe to exhibit her artwork,
especially her 2013 art calendar. Everything Ruth
creates has a deeper meaning for her, and the calendar
is no different – every month has artwork with a story
behind it. Bishop Bruce Gilberd says, “Whether it’s
flower arrangements, tapestry quilts, or her paintings,
Ruth expresses her faith through artistic creativity.
Another thing about Ruth, if she feels anything has
been forgotten or needs to be said...she says it”!
Look for Ruth and her artwork at the “Jandel Art & Folk
Festival”, 26 January at the Town Hall. Purchase your
calendar at the Local Advertiser or directly from
Ruth at 864 8106.
After working for Karen part time, Annette is
keen to keep the flowers flowing. “I plan to
expand”, she shares, “by adding an array of
gift baskets to the shop’s all-occasion floral
arrangements”.
Annette enlisted help of hubby Neil to prepare
the shed and make room for chillers. He’s
built shelves and benches to create a lovely
work space, filled, of course, with gorgeous
fresh flowers.
Annette has always loved flowers. “Dad
grew beautiful gardens, and I picked up the
design and arranging talents from Mum.
Flowers bring such comfort and happiness.
So what better job can one have, to do what
I love and be surrounded by the sights,
smells and feel of flowers”.
In her “not so” free time Annette loves
babysitting her grandchildren and co-
chairing, appropriately, Tairua Friendship
Club. Create your own happy occasion,
surprise your wife or honour a special friend.
Call Annette at 07 864 8886 to discuss all
your floral needs.
