Gina and Lance have lived full-time in Tairua for
4 years. Lance tells us “Creating new businesses
together is great fun! It gives us a both a sense
of accomplishment, and it’s rewarding to
see something we have created working and
contributing to the community. We make a good
team. ‘Personality-wise’, we balance each other
out, too: Gina walks quickly ... I stroll. Gina talks
fast ... I contemplate. Gina rises early ... I get up,
ummmm, eventually”.
The couple met 7 years ago when they both
worked with a nutritional company. They shared a
passion for healthy living and now not only run one
business, this can-do couple operates three health-
related operations: Fit Fiddle Gym, Albatross
Physiotherapy, and All Things Organic.
“When we came to live in Tairua, we not only
needed incomes, we also wanted access to certain
things that weren’t here yet”, Gina explains. “Lance
desperately wanted a gym; he was going crazy
without one. I wanted readily-available organic food
(especially since we had two little ones) and Lance
had thoughts of creating his own Physio clinic”.
What works best for them, in both marriage and
business? Gina says, “The support we have for
each other, through the stressful times especially, is
quite cool. It has made us stronger as a couple”.
Lance adds that keeping a business ticking is
challenge enough. “There are tricky bits to all this.
Like Winter! Keeping things going through that
quiet period can be challenging”.
Gina notes that funding the evolving businesses,
“combined with the sleep deprivation that goes
with young ones”, has been stressful for them.
Lance agrees, “And juggling time in the businesses
and looking after the children is like the world yo-yo
championships. I come home ... hand-over... Gina
goes to work. Gina comes home ... hand-over... I go
off to work. Being on time becomes important”.
“And, of course, the dreaded GST and accounts.
Oh, how we wish a fairy could come along, wave
her magic wand and make it all disappear”, laughs
Lance.
“Yeah,” adds Gina. “Does anyone out there know
how to make this part fun and easy?”
“When I eventually worked
out that Gina wanted to be
more than friends, we didn’t
waste any time”! Lance
Easton laughs. “After 8
months we got engaged, 5
months later we married”.
Lance and Gina just
celebrated their 5th
anniversary and are pictured
with the blessings of their
union — Archer, Lincoln, and
newcomer Keana, a darling
baby girl.
“The demands of three kids
and three businesses are too
much, and we are making
some adjustments”, says
Gina. They plan to sell “All
Things Organic”.
In Love
& In Business
Entrepreneurial couples make up one of the most dynamic forces in small business
today. Since toasting three such Coromandel couples in the 2011 Summer issue, we
realised the growing trend everywhere in NZ, especially here in the Tairua/Pauanui area.
We’ll be featuring a few in upcoming issues.
Couples successfully running businesses together not only deal well with the differences,
they thrive on them. One such couple we found is
Gina and Lance Easton.
