Mercury Bay Estate and Lonely Bay
Vineyards provided the picturesque venue
to raise funds for the Westpac Rescue
Helicopter’s new Whitianga hangar.
Pauanui Center offered late night shopping
with Santa stReet party.
Santa arrived by train for the festivities
at Pauanui Centre 21 December.
“The
kids had a great time taking rides on the mini-
train, receiving balloons from Santa and having
their faces painted”, says Tracey Salkeld, Centre
manager.
Half the carpark was reserved for the music stage
and train, provided by Trish and Keith Waters.
Ian Hopper, helped by Fred Crawford, provided a
sound stage for our Valley Carolers, mostly Hikuai
women and children festively dressed in red
and white. Supervalue supplied lollies for a lolly
scramble, and PCL the balloons. “And a special
‘Ho Ho’ to Rocky and Tina for my festive throne”,
chuckles the Man-in-Red.
The night was full of store giveaways provided
by the tenants. Special holiday drinks were
offered by Pauanui Liquor & Video, eggnog at The
Chocolate Pretzel, mulled wine at The Lime Room
along with Christmas cocktails and canapes in
the courtyard at Archey’s. No wonder most of the
town turned up! “We will be doing it again next
year, even bigger and better” says Tracey.
Westpac Rescue Helicopter programme
gets support, gives support
‘Concert in the vines’ was a relaxing day in the
Coromandel sun with music from one of NZ’s
most prominent country music stars Tami Neilson,
plus Anna Hawkins and The Shy & Retiring
Company. Everyone enjoyed a picnic by the pond
or fine food and wines at the Cellar Door.
Rescue helicopter missions to the Coromandel
and Thames region have increased by 85 per cent
in the last four years.
Westpac Rescue Demonstration: Weather was
perfect for this static line rescue demonstrated
by Californian lifeguards and Westpac Rescue
Helicopter. Tairua surf lifesaving club members
hosted 30 lifeguards from Huntington Beach. In
the drill, the lifeguard jumps from the helicopter
into the water and secures the swimmer before
both are lifted and flown to land.
Junior lifeguard and exchange programs
help promote beach safety awareness and
professional open-water lifesaving standards.
Tairua surf lifesaving club does an excellent job of
reducing injuries, accidents and fatalities at our
beach - thanks heaps guys n gals.
