MARK THOSE CALENDARS.

The first Saturday in

2017 is the 23rd year for the Tairua School

Wine & Food Festival – a favourite summer

event that brings together terrific music,

great food, NZ produce, wines & beers, kids

entertainment and more.

MULTI-AWARD WINNING ANIKA MOA

LIGHTS UP THE STAGE

Headlining on stage this year is NZ musical

icon and irreverently funny talk show host – the

incredibly talented Anika Moa. What a coup for

the entire Coromandel, let alone for Tairua! (And

her show is included with admission!)

As one of the the country’s top female

recording artists, Anika is sure to be a huge

drawcard for fans from all over. She has won

multiple NZ Music awards including Best

Female Solo Artist, (twice) Best Vocalist and

Songwriter of the Year as well as being the

youngest Kiwi artist to be signed to a major

American record company (Check out Anika’s

Facebook page to ‘get an earful’.)

OTHER ENTERTAINMENT, GAMES, & KIDS ACTIVITIES

Also on stage will be Radiobaby, a Thames

rock/pop covers band. Tairua School’s glee

club and other live bands are also performing.

Colourful and friendly street entertainers,

a fabulous kids’ area that includes face

painting, creative activities, massive

inflatable fun, and even a water slide, will

surely keep the kids entertained.

AND FOOD AND WINE?

Come with a giant appetite,

and dive into the sumptuous offerings from

over 30 Kiwi food, beer and wine vendors.

Enjoy typical Kiwi fare (yay, sausage sizzles!),

but expect many booths to serve up enticing

international dishes.

PRIZES AND SURPRISES

The $15 adult admission includes both a raffle

ticket and a cup designed by local artist Helinor

Stead (Notus Illustrations) – and under 18 get

in free. The pinnacle prize, drawn at 3:30pm, is

once again an International Travel Prize worth

$3,000 in conjunction with Fuzion Travel (You

must be present to win).

A Squirt Kayak and Paddle (valued at $599) has

also been donated by Dive Zone Whitianga as

a prize. Others will be raffled throughout the

day with additional giveaways and volunteers

distributing free merchandise.

HOW TAIRUA SCHOOL BENEFITS

Proceeds keep Tairua School at the cutting

edge of education in New Zealand. Profit from

last year’s festival topped $49,000!

“This year, some proceeds will help purchase

two state-of-the-art basketball hoops,”

explains Principal Brendan Finn. In the past,

the festival has funded new tiger turf courts, the

redevelopment of our pool, teacher aide support

in the classrooms and new computers.” As

Tairua School roll grows additional classrooms

are planned and some proceeds may contribute

to this expansion project.

“Although it is a tremendous amount of work,

the way our amazing parents and the community

collaborate to stage this iconic event – and

the atmosphere created on the day – really

epitomises who we are as a school. It is a

massive team effort, and we all look forward to

what’s ahead on January 7th.”

“If you have never been before, come and

Coromandel this summer,” Brendan adds.

“We are absolutely ecstatic
